After Paulo Sousa’s departure, the Polish Football Association is frantically looking for a new manager for the white-and-red team. Interesting applications appear on Cezary Kulesza’s desk. Andrea Pirlo Polish would like to lead players.
Andrea Pirlo is one of the most outstanding figures in Italian football. The legendary midfielder for years brilliantly in the colours of AC Milan, and later Juventus. With the Italian national team, he reached the world championship in 2006 and also silver at Euro 2012 played in Poland and Ukraine. After ending his football career Pirlo led Juventus from the coaching bench, but in Turin did not achieve spectacular success and – despite reaching the Cup and the Italian Super Cup – after less than a year of work was fired from Juve.
Pirlo instead of Sousa?
On Monday, the “wp.pl” portal reported that the 42-year-old applied for the position of selector of the White and Red team.
“Pirlo has already talked to the Polish side about it,” Piotr Koźmiński writes.
President of the Polish Football Association (PZPN) Cezary Kulesza has to look for Paulo Sousa’s successor in a hurry because already in March, Polish players will face Russia in the play-offs before the World Cup. If the White-Red beat Sborna, they will play against Sweden or the Czech Republic in the deciding match.
It seems that there is no time for experiments and although Pirlo’s candidacy sounds interesting, coaches from the Vistula River stand a much better chance of leading the national team. Adam Nawałka, who successfully led the White and Reds at Euro 2016, is most often mentioned in this context, but at the World Cup in Russia, our players did not even get out of the group – after defeats against Senegal and Colombia in poor style, they said goodbye to the championship with a lacklustre game against Japan.
