„At the NATO summit in Brussels, Poland will officially present a proposal for a peace mission in Ukraine together with a detailed package of solutions”, said Deputy Chief of Ministry of National Defense Wojciech Skurkiewicz. President Andrzej Duda’s Head of Cabinet, Paweł Szrot, assured that President Andrzej Duda, together with the government, would present proposals in Brussels.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, together with Czech Prime Minister Petro Fiala and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janscha, met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Szmyhal on Tuesday. After the meeting, Kaczynski said that there was a need for a peaceful and humanitarian mission in Ukraine, prepared by NATO and perhaps other organisations, which could also defend itself.
Skurkiewicz on Sunday at TVP Info after Kaczynski’s suggestions said that such a NATO peace mission in Ukraine “might be in a week or might be in a month.”
He also recalled that a NATO summit would be held in Brussels the following week, with the participation of US President Joe Biden.
“This proposal (by Kaczyński) is officially submitted by the Polish side, with a detailed description of what such a mission would look like,” said Skurkiewicz.
The Chief of the Cabinet of the President, Paweł Szrot, referred to the proposal put forward by Kaczynski on TVP Info, assuring that President Andrzej Duda did not distance himself from such an idea.
“The president is in constant negotiations with the government. He is going to the NATO summit in Brussels next week and will present this alternative proposal together with the government,” he announced.
Next Thursday, 24 March, following the Russian attack on Ukraine, an extraordinary NATO summit will take place in Brussels. The European Council will meet on 24 and 15 March.
