Angela Merkel decided not to admit Ukraine to NATO, reported the news agency dpa on Monday, which had asked the former German Chancellor to comment on the criticisms made by Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky following the revelations of Russian war crimes in Bucha.
On Sunday, Volodymyr Zelensky invited Merkel and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy to go to Bucha and see for themselves the extent of Russian crimes against civilians.
“I invite Mrs Merkel and Mr Sarkozy to visit Bucha and see what the policy of appeasement towards Russia has done over the past 14 years. They will see with their own eyes how the Ukrainians are being tortured,” said the Ukrainian President.

“The former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is sticking to her decisions in connection with the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest,” Merkel’s spokesperson said at the dpa’s request. At the same time, she stressed that “the former Chancellor supports international efforts to end Russian aggression in Ukraine.”
