A Right-Wing Government in Poland Soon? Kaczyński Outlines Upcoming Plans

It’s a foregone conclusion that Polish-American relations will only be truly strong if Karol Nawrocki becomes president, and later, after the elections, a government formed by Law and Justice (PiS) and possible allies comes to power. “Full mobilization,” announced PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński on social media today.

“I Pushed for This”
On Tuesday, news emerged that the U.S. Department of Commerce had reversed a decision by Joe Biden’s administration that had been unfavorable to Poland regarding the export of advanced AI technologies. The issue had been raised by presidential candidate Dr. Karol Nawrocki during his recent visit to the United States in meetings with American politicians.

“A breakthrough decision by the Department of Commerce. During my recent visit to Washington, I urged senior White House officials and Congressional leaders to reverse President Biden’s AI diffusion policy. I want to thank Donald Trump for helping to restore trust in U.S.-Poland relations. This is a key step toward strengthening allied innovation and Poland’s role in the AI-driven economy,” Nawrocki wrote on social media today.

A campaign video highlighting Nawrocki’s efforts on AI policy was also published today on his social media profile.

Gawkowski Wants to Take the Credit
The current government is trying to take credit for the success of Nawrocki’s U.S. visit.

“Several months of strong diplomatic efforts to reinstate Poland among the countries with full access to microchip technology have paid off. The U.S. administration changed its position, and that’s thanks to the Polish government and our ministers, who have been engaging with American officials both in Poland, the U.S., and across Europe,” said Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of Digital Affairs.

This is particularly curious, given that Gawkowski himself was sharply criticized in a recent letter from U.S. Republicans to European Commissioners.
