ABW Stops Planned Christmas Market Terror Attack – Student from Lublin Arrested

The Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained a student from the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) suspected of preparing a mass attack at one of the Christmas markets.

The goal of the planned attack at one of the markets was to intimidate many people and to support the Islamic State – said Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the coordinator of the special services (today we revealed his past in the Volunteer Reserve of the Citizens’ Militia (ORMO)).

The spokesperson for the coordinator of the special services added that the man detained by officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) is a Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) student, Mateusz W. He is suspected of preparing a mass attack at one of the Christmas markets, which he planned to carry out using explosive materials.

“Earlier, the man had been acquiring knowledge on how to independently manufacture materials that were intended to be used to carry out a terrorist act. He also planned to join a terrorist organization in order to obtain assistance in implementing his intended actions. The aim of the crime was to intimidate many people and to support the Islamic State,” the spokesperson wrote on the X platform.

He reported that during the conducted operations, ABW officers secured data carriers and items connected with Islam. “By court decision, the man will spend the next three months in pre-trial detention. The investigation in this case is being conducted by the Szczecin branch of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) under the supervision of the out-of-town division of the National Prosecutor’s Office (PK) in Szczecin,” he added. He emphasized that the case is developmental in nature.
