On April 19, POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews organises a social and educational Action Daffodils to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
The yellow daffodil is a symbol of collective memory
“The last leader of the Jewish Fighting Organization, Marek Edelman, who survived the liquidation of the ghetto, cherished the memory of the events of 1943 for years. Until the end of his life, on the anniversary of the uprising, he would come to the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes to pay tribute to his fallen comrades. With him came more and more people with yellow flowers.” (polin.pl)
The action is dedicated to the 50,000 civilians who hid in attics of houses and underground bunkers during the fighting, as well as in the ruins of the ghetto after the uprising fell. For many weeks they remained elusive to the German soldiers, and their resistance was as important as the resistance of those who fought with weapons in their hands.
