Active School Initiative: Empowering Education and Sports for the New School Year

As a new school year approaches, the “Active School” program offers schools an ideal opportunity to enhance their educational offerings and support physical education teachers. Funded by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, this initiative allows schools to secure financial aid for organizing additional sports activities and purchasing equipment. The program could benefit up to 300,000 students this year, providing them with new avenues for physical activity and personal growth.

Already, nearly 7,000 schools have joined the “Active to the Square” project, creating over 18,000 groups for sports activities. The program aims to expand even further, potentially involving 10,000 schools and 20,000 groups, thereby engaging hundreds of thousands of students in extracurricular sports. These activities not only promote physical fitness but also help students build social skills and foster a sense of community.

Funding and Resources: Supporting Sports Instructors and Upgrading School Facilities

In addition to expanding sports opportunities for students, the program provides schools with the chance to secure funds for compensating instructors who lead these activities. This allows for the inclusion of extra training sessions, particularly for older students, offering them more chances to pursue their athletic interests. Younger students also benefit from these sessions, which serve as a means to improve physical fitness and strengthen peer relationships.

The “Active Weekend” project, another component of the initiative, offers schools up to 25,000 PLN for sports equipment when they host activities on weekends. This funding ensures that schools can provide well-equipped spaces for student activities, enriching the overall educational experience.

Enhancing Educator Skills and Community Engagement through the Active School Program

The Active School program also focuses on the professional development of teachers, providing training and resources through the Public Sports Academy. This support helps educators enhance their skills and adapt to modern teaching methods, ultimately benefiting students. By participating in the program, schools not only improve their educational offerings but also strengthen their ties to the community, boosting their reputation as centres of comprehensive student development.
