“I declare that the moment I cross the walls of a prison, or any detention facility, I will immediately throw the meal trays outside and begin a hunger strike in protest,” Adam Borowski said in response to a question from a journalist at Niezalezna.pl.
The cost of keeping a detainee in a Polish correctional facility is high. With a characteristic sense of dark humor, Borowski reacted to the estimated amount cited by his defense lawyer, attorney Krzysztof Wąsowski, saying that in his case it would be lower.
However, his declaration was entirely serious. “I will immediately begin a hunger strike,” he announced.
“I declare that the moment I cross the walls of a prison, or any detention facility, I will immediately throw the meal trays outside and begin a hunger strike in protest, because I believe this verdict is unjust and I do not agree with it,” Borowski stated publicly.
He admitted that this is the only form of opposition he can demonstrate while in prison.
The District Court for Warsaw-Wola is to decide whether Adam Borowski, head of the Warsaw branch of the “Gazeta Polska” Club, will be imprisoned in connection with his criticism of Civic Coalition (KO) MP Roman Giertych.
