Two international teams of scientists, including astronomers from the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw, have announced the discovery of a free-floating black hole in the Milky Way galaxy. This is the first detection of its kind.
On June 9th in Elektronik Cinema in Warsaw took place a charity action “Kasandra - Reading for the Right Thing”. It was a read-along connected with fundraising and necessities collection organized to support the National Dramatic Theatre in Ivano-Frankivsk. During the event, actors read “Kasandra” by Lesya Ukrainka, a classic Ukrainian female author.
The Łódź Zoo (Polish: Miejski Ogród Zoologiczny w Łodzi) is a zoological garden in the city of Łódź established in 1938. It is the home to 2,245 animals, representing 667 species, including endangered Asiatic lions. Now, the first pair of the bush dog species joined the collection of the zoo.
On Saturday, 10 nuns, murdered by soldiers of the Red Army in various parts of Silesia and the Czech Republic in 1945, will be beatified in the cathedral in Wrocław. The Elizabethan sisters pinpoint that the nuns died defending their honour and other people lives. The preparations for the beatification are accompanied by the slogan "Faithful to love".
Today, in the Gdansk Museum was the vernissage of the “Masterpieces of Polish Painting” exhibition. The collection includes 65 artworks by the best Polish painters such as Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski and members of the Kossak family. The exhibition lasts until October 2nd, 2022.

The grand opening of the Museum of the Victims of Communism took place on the 8th of June in Washington. It will open to the public on 13 June. The museum was founded on the initiative of the Memorial Foundation for the Victims of Communism. The seat of the Museum is located near the place where the Goddess of Freedom Monument was erected in 2007.
National Donald Duck Day on June 9th each year commemorates the birthday of a funny animated cartoon character that is well known all around the world - in Poland too! Even though Donald Duck made his first screen debut on June 9, 1934, in "The Wise Little Hen", it is still one of the kid's favourite animated friends! Years later, when the classic cartoons were shown in Poland, Donald was dubbed by Mariusz Czajka and Jarosław Boberek.
On Tuesday (June 7), the unexploded ordnance was found in the river in Braniewo (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). The 9th Armoured Cavalry Brigade in Braniewo recorded a short video of the detonation.
The self-propelled tracker gun-howitzers supplied by Poland have already been deployed and are used at the front line in Ukraine. “I am happy to inform you that Polish self-propelled artillery units AHS Krab are ready to carry out combat missions at the front,” Oleksiy Reznikov, Defense Minister of Ukraine, informed.

It aims to show traditional and avant-garde music from different parts of the world, this year focusing on the border between Europe and Africa. Among the artists will be Dhafer Youssef from Tunisia, Sona Jobarteh from the Gambia and Polish-Ukrainian group Dagadana. Concerts will take place at Stodoła Club in Warsaw.

Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (the LULUCF) activities include the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere or decreasing emissions by halting the loss of carbon stocks. The ‘Fit for 55’ package revises the LULUCF regulations and refers to the EU’s target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. According to Secretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment Edward Siarka, the targets for Poland have been drastically increased, whereas other countries, such as France, do not face the changes on the same level.
Ukrainian war prisoners from Azovstal have been transferred to Russia for “further investigation” and at the same time the Russian MFA spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in today’s briefing, accuses Ukrainian troops of war crimes in Ukraine. According to her, every day during Russia’s special military operations, Russians “reveal new evidence of crimes committed by the Ukrainian troops.”
