Aggressive Dogs Attacked Before. Shooting Range Owner Asked Colleagues for Help

New shocking facts are emerging related to the tragedy in Zielona Góra. A man who was bitten by aggressive dogs died despite having all his limbs amputated. The owner of the animals is a former police officer who, in the past, could count on his colleagues in times of trouble. The local community reports that the tragedy could have been avoided, but until now, no one responded appropriately.

Media findings based on testimonies from the victims clearly indicate that the situation in Zielona Góra’s Racula was well known to the authorities. The problem involved severe dog bites from guard dogs at the shooting range. But that wasn’t the only issue.

The victims of the attacks still suffer from severe injuries, such as missing ears or deep scars. What was the local police doing during this time? According to the victims’ statements, they were passive and sluggish in carrying out their duties. They arrived at the scene hours after being called.

In extreme cases, they protected their former colleague from the force, even assisting him when the seized animals were taken to a shelter. The owner came to the facility accompanied by officers and forced the return of the dogs. Shelter staff confirmed this happened after another serious dog attack on people in 2024. They also mentioned noticing gunshot and stab wounds on the dogs, which suggested that the owner had been present at the scene, possibly attempting to pull the angry shepherd dogs away from the victim. When commands failed, he might have used a firearm.

Terror in the Neighborhood

The dogs also escaped beyond the fenced area and attacked people outside. This still went unaddressed by the relevant authorities.

“The residents were concerned not only by the aggressive behavior of the dogs but also by what they perceived as improper security of the shooting range owned by a former police officer. Local residents, walking through the forest, often came across bullet shells,” it was described on the service’s action account. Local media reported that a petition from nearby residents demanding the closure of the shooting range was ignored.

Response After the Fact

Only on October 16 did the prosecutor’s office arrest the owner of the dogs and shooting range. Piotr M., aged 53, will spend the next three months in detention. He was charged with causing serious bodily harm in the form of a life-threatening illness, which resulted in the victim’s death.

The man was questioned and gave an explanation, but he does not feel responsible. According to current regulations, he faces a prison sentence ranging from 5 years to life.

The 46-year-old man who was mauled by the dogs died after several surgeries, including amputations.

The prosecutor’s office is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The head of the Zielona Góra prosecutor’s office, Robert Kmieciak, advised people to contact the prosecutor’s office or the police directly.

The Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) announced an inspection from the National Police Headquarters to look into the interventions made on calls, as well as the permits granted for the shooting range and the mandatory inspections by authorities.
