Airport Joke Goes Wrong: How a Casual Comment Sparked Chaos at Warsaw Airport

At Warsaw Chopin Airport, a misguided joke about carrying a bomb in luggage led to two men being fined and barred from their flights, according to Border Guard officials.

On a recent Saturday, a 48-year-old man from Warsaw, moments before boarding his flight to Heraklion, nonchalantly declared he had a bomb in his luggage. Shortly after, a 55-year-old from Białobrzeg County, scheduled to fly to Enfidha, Tunisia, made a similar jest, claiming his suitcase contained “nothing but a bomb.”

The jokes triggered an immediate response from the Special Intervention Group of the Border Guards. Both passengers’ bags underwent thorough pyrotechnic inspections, which fortunately confirmed that there were no explosives present.

Despite the lack of actual threat, the consequences were swift. The airline officials handling the check-ins decided to remove both men from their flights. They explained their comments as foolish jokes, but still faced legal repercussions.

Captain Dagmara Bielec, spokesperson for the Vistula Border Guard District, noted that in addition to being pulled from their flights, the men were issued fines.
