On Wednesday, President Andrzej Duda received George Simion, Vice-Chair of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group, leader of the right-wing AUR party, and winner of the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, at the Presidential Palace. The primary topic of the meeting between the politicians was bilateral relations between Poland and Romania.
Bilateral Relations
The meeting was announced on Wednesday via social media by the Chancellery of the President. It was reported that the meeting was also attended by Małgorzata Paprocka, Head of the Chancellery of the President, Wojciech Kolarski, Head of the Presidential Office for International Policy, and Mateusz Morawiecki, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists group and politician from the Law and Justice party (PiS).
“The main topic of discussion was bilateral relations between Poland and Romania,” stated the Chancellery of the President.
Simion received the highest level of support in the first round of Romania’s presidential elections. In the second round, scheduled for this coming Sunday, he will compete against the pro-European mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan.
We Will Build a Europe of Nations
On Tuesday, Simion took part in a rally in Zabrze, where he encouraged support for the civic presidential candidate, Karol Nawrocki. “The future president of Romania, the future president of Poland,” said Nawrocki as he welcomed Simion.
“Together—when George wins, and together—when we win, ladies and gentlemen, on May 18 we will build a Europe of values, a Europe of nations, in which we will not allow the EU to centralize and turn Poland and Romania into its provinces,” Nawrocki declared at that time.
