The prosecutor’s office has confirmed another scandal involving Warsaw’s Southern Hospital (Szpital Południowy) — the forgery of 20 death certificates within fewer than 20 days during the summer of 2025. “This could surpass even the Łódź Emergency Medical Service scandal and the ‘skin hunters’ affair from more than 20 years ago,” said Law and Justice (PiS) MP Paweł Jabłoński.
Today, the prosecutor’s office announced an investigation being conducted by the Warsaw-Ursynów District Prosecutor’s Office into the forgery of death certificates at the mortuary of Warsaw’s Southern Hospital involving 20 deceased individuals over a period of 19 days. The documents were allegedly completed, stamped with the mortuary coordinator’s official seal, and signed by an unauthorized person.
The alleged forgery is said to have occurred while the individual whose signature appears on the documents was on annual leave. Earlier, that person’s official stamp had reportedly gone missing.
The prosecutor’s office stated that “the verification conducted in this investigation provides no grounds to conclude that there is either a personal or factual connection with the two investigations initiated several days ago by the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office concerning irregularities in the Emergency Department of Southern Hospital.”
Journalists had already reported on the investigation yesterday. At the same time, during yesterday’s press conference, Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba was asked about investigations concerning the falsification of documentation. He responded:
“At present, as far as medical documentation is concerned, we have no proceedings in which such issues could be examined.”
The scandal involving the alleged falsification of documents at the hospital mortuary has sparked widespread discussion on social media.
“There is now official confirmation that someone at Southern Hospital was using another person’s official stamps and completed patients’ death certificates on behalf of an employee who was absent from work. One wonders how many other types of documents may also have been forged. The prosecutor’s office is already claiming there is no ‘personal connection’ with the incidents described so far… even though the perpetrator has not yet been identified,” attorney Bartosz Lewandowski wrote.

Paweł Jabłoński, a PiS MP and lawyer, also commented:
“Unbelievable. Twenty cases in less than three weeks?! This could surpass even the Łódź Emergency Medical Service scandal and the ‘skin hunters’ affair from more than 20 years ago…
Don’t be surprised that Donald Tusk and his associates are trying to discredit the whistleblower. They are fighting for their political survival. But they will lose.”
Another social media post read:
“The very fact that the death certificates of 20 patients who died in the Emergency Department at Southern Hospital were allegedly falsified is shocking. When we realize that these 20 death certificates were forged within just 17 days, it suggests a daily effort to conceal evidence of complete incompetence.”
Another commentator wrote:
“In August and September 2025, as many as 20 death certificates may have been forged at Southern Hospital. This is no longer just a media sensation—the prosecutor’s office has been investigating this outrageous case for several days. #EliteAtTheTrough or Civic Pathology?”
