Are the Services Supposed to Combat the Border Defence Movement? Furious Siemoniak Attacks Błaszczak

Tomasz Siemoniak, the Minister of the Interior and Administration, stated that “the police and Border Guard have clear guidelines” on how to respond when citizen patrols (such as those affiliated with the Border Defence Movement) appear at the border. His remarks prompted a reaction from Mariusz Błaszczak, the former Minister of National Defence. “From Minister Siemoniak’s interview, it appears that the biggest problem at the border isn’t migrants, but the Border Defence Movement,” he remarked. This enraged a member of the December 13 coalition.

On the night between Sunday and Monday, temporary checks were introduced at the borders with Germany and Lithuania. These measures are allegedly intended to stop the uncontrolled flow of migrants.

In recent weeks, individuals associated with the so-called Border Defence Movement (ROG) have appeared along certain stretches of the Polish-German border, monitoring it against illegal crossings. ROG has been reporting such activities on social media in real time.
The public debate is increasingly focused on the question of why the government has only now decided to introduce border checks, given that the problem of illegal migrant smuggling into Poland has persisted for months. Not long ago, Donald Tusk himself publicly criticised Poles involved in the Border Defence Movement and its leader, Robert Bąkiewicz.

Siemoniak: There Are Guidelines…

This morning, an interview with Tomasz Siemoniak, the Interior Minister, was published by the Polish Press Agency. According to his statements, if such citizen patrols do not cease their activities, consequences will follow due to special “guidelines.”

“As of today, we are facing a new situation: there are border controls, and border crossings have become critical infrastructure, where unauthorised individuals are not allowed. Therefore, near the border crossings, there will be no individuals attempting to impersonate officials or obstruct official duties. I assume such situations will not occur, and the police and Border Guard have clear instructions to act firmly and decisively, not allowing such activities to take place,” Siemoniak stated.

Błaszczak: The Main Problem? The Border Defence Movement!

Mariusz Błaszczak, former Minister of National Defence, responded to the minister’s words on the platform X.

In his view:

“From Minister Siemoniak’s interview, it seems that the biggest problem at the border is not the migrants, but the Border Defence Movement. The Interior Minister speaks of a harsh response toward citizens engaged in this important grassroots movement. He also emphasizes that ‘anti-immigrant banners’ will be removed,” wrote the PiS politician.

He added, “Someone here has their priorities mixed up. The arrogance, conceit, and impudence of this government are off the charts.”

“No regulations have been introduced to support the Border Guard in countering the trafficking operation that Germany has been conducting for months. Instead, a whole array of measures has been implemented to counter local residents who want to live in a safe Poland and oppose illegal migration,” he explained.

Siemoniak Strikes Back at Błaszczak

Błaszczak’s words clearly provoked Siemoniak, who posted a strongly worded response on social media, attacking the former defence minister:

“Former Minister Błaszczak ‘in defence of the borders’ is best remembered for a press conference with pornographic and zoophilic content. And his government, for a porous border barrier and tens of thousands of migrants in the visa scandal.”

He continued:

“He would do better to stay silent now and support the state services, which he was leading not so long ago.”

Błaszczak, however, did not remain silent and quickly responded to the jab:

“While your boss, Donald Tusk, was calling illegal migrants ‘poor people looking for their place on Earth,’ your colleagues were running with pizza to the border to hinder officers and soldiers, and you voted against building the border barrier. We fought the wave of illegal migration because that is what a responsible government must do. If you had even a shred of dignity or self-preservation instinct, you would simply remain silent,” he wrote.
