    Art Masterpieces by Wyspiański, Wierusz-Kowalski, Kantor, and Nowosielski to Headline Agra-Art Auctions

    On Sunday, October 22, 2023, Agra-Art is set to host two consecutive auctions – Contemporary Art and Old Masters.

    Rare Gems from the Past: Old Masters Auction
    The Old Masters auction will feature two pastels by Stanisław Wyspiański and three oil paintings by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski. Wyspiański’s pastels start at several hundred thousand zlotys and reach seven figures, with his paintings garnering attention from museums and collectors alike.

    Wierusz-Kowalski’s Artistry
    Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski’s prized works, including “During the Hunt” and “Setting Out at Dawn,” will be auctioned with starting prices of 600,000 and 1,100,000 zlotys, respectively. Additionally, “Bedouins” will commence bidding at 360,000 zlotys.

    A Diverse Collection
    The auction catalog includes creations from Poland’s most celebrated artists, such as Witkacy, Józef Pankiewicz, Meli Muter, Teodor Axentowicz, Kossaks, Vlastimil Hofman, Zofia Stryjeńska, and more. A special highlight is the oil sketch by Józef Chełmoński, offered at a very attractive starting price of 35,000 zlotys.

    Contemporary Art Extravaganza
    The Contemporary Art auction showcases three paintings by Jerzy Duda Gracz, known for his unique commentary on the Polish reality. The auction also boasts works from other prominent Polish artists, including Jan Dobkowski, Franciszek Starowieyski, Jan Tarasin, and Tadeusz Kantor’s “Composition” from 1962, along with Jerzy Nowosielski’s “Portrait” from 1954.

    Japanese Collection
    Agra-Art’s auctions will also present paintings from the legendary Japanese Collection, assembled in the early 1990s. This time, works by Jacek Sienicki and Henryk Wańek will be on display.
