Polish Armed Forces Day
The date of August 15 commemorates Poland’s victorious Battle of Warsaw of 1920. This decisive clash ensured the country’s independence and halted the Bolshevik offensive toward Western Europe. In the period of the Second Polish Republic, it was one of the most important historical events.
Armed Forces Day was established on August 15, 1923, and was celebrated until 1947. In 1992, this date was reinstated as the official holiday of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland.
