“In 2021, a powerful apparatus for destroying the entire management of Orlen – including myself – was launched,” said Daniel Obajtek during a press conference. The former CEO of PKN Orlen and Member of the European Parliament for Law and Justice (PiS) recalled several media attacks that ultimately ended up in the prosecutor’s office and the courts.
Daniel Obajtek, MEP for PiS and former CEO of PKN Orlen, dedicated today’s press conference to the media attacks he faced over the past few years. He referred, among others, to an article in Gazeta Wyborcza titled “Wyborcza Investigation – Obajtek Received a Million-Zloty Discount on an Apartment”.
Media Attacks on Obajtek
“At that time, in 2021, the ‘GW’ article, followed by other articles from Onet, Business Insider, TVN, Newsweek, and Polityka, appeared. Certain politicians were strongly behind these media outlets: Zembaczyński, Sowa, Pomaska, Brejza, Kierwiński. A powerful attack on me was launched. It was claimed that I received a material benefit in the form of acquiring an apartment financed through the Beniaminek Profbud Krosno club. They claimed that the developer owned this club. Of course, that was a lie. The developer was one of the contributors. Notarial deeds were revealed, and a full-scale campaign against me and my family was conducted,” the politician said.
Following this, authorities initiated proceedings, including a prosecutorial investigation, which was later discontinued. In 2024, the Mazovian Customs and Tax Office launched a proceeding in this matter and made a decision. On June 4, 2025, it concluded that I had received a financial benefit amounting to 400,000 PLN. Just two days later, on June 6, 2025, following the first-instance decision, my account was frozen immediately. Such measures are typically taken against fuel mafias when someone attempts to flee with their assets. At the end of February, I filed an appeal. Of course, the prosecution had already discontinued the proceedings. By the end of February, the Tax Administration Chamber overturned the first-instance decision in this case. The chamber director stated the following: the price was at market value. It was negotiated, and all correspondence with the developer’s representatives was conducted. The apartment was purchased at the final stage. Other apartments in this location were sold for lower amounts. No proceedings were initiated against others who bought apartments significantly cheaper. Only I was subjected to account freezing,” he continued.
“Moreover, the director noted that witness testimonies were overlooked, some were not even interviewed, and correspondence was not verified, which was confirmed. The apartment’s value had been estimated based on media articles. As a result, the state will return these amounts to me with interest. Imagine the losses this caused to the state budget,” he added.
Obajtek also recalled that “two officials were handling this matter, who, according to my knowledge and observation, were acting according to a political agenda. That’s not all. The same chamber initiated proceedings regarding a manor I had transferred to a foundation for children and Tourette syndrome therapy. Due to the pandemic, the foundation withdrew, so it was handed over to another foundation to fulfill this purpose. Not to mention the thousands of media articles on this matter. According to them, a financial benefit occurred. A benefit, if someone donates their own property for 30 years intending to establish a facility for children with Tourette syndrome. Behind this were the same officials and institutions.”
“This is not all. Another case reached its conclusion. This involves the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zamość. While I was running a campaign, billboards and the operations of a printing house were seized because, as claimed, it was operating illegally. I want to emphasize that the prosecution discontinued the proceedings in this case. In February 2026, they asked us to retrieve the billboards. This is another case where the prosecution and authorities act scandalously, ruining people, violating the Constitution, and breaking all applicable laws.
