Beware of Barbie Apps: A Warning from the Ministry of Digitization

Barbie is back as a pop culture icon, thanks to the latest film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. With the Barbie trend in full swing, a massive business frenzy has ensued, flooding us with content related to the iconic doll. Among these are apps that allow users to transform themselves into Barbie or Ken using fun filters. However, this time, the situation appears serious.

    Data Collection Operation

The Ministry of Digitization has issued a stern warning about two online applications: barbieselfie.ai and bairbie.me. Government representatives have raised an alarm, stating that some apps, which enable users to create Barbie-themed photos, pose a significant threat to the security of our personal data.

The Ministry emphasizes that the bairbie.me app fails to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Parliament and Council, leaving uncertainty about the extent of data collected and its potential uses.

    Privacy Risks with barbieselfie.ai

On the other hand, by accepting the privacy policy of barbieselfie.ai, users grant the app access to their camera, payment history, GPS location history, registration data, smartphone technical information, social media activity, interactions with other users, and data from surveys and online contests they participated in.
