“Without free media, there is no free society. The campaign against TV Republika, entering the private apartment of editor Tomasz Sakiewicz, and the detention of editor Leszek Kraskowski are illegal attempts to break resistance to those in power. The government wants to intimidate people, journalists, and politicians,” MEP Tobiasz Bocheński (Law and Justice (PiS)) told Niezalezna.pl.
In recent weeks, there has been an intensification of repression by the December 13 coalition government against conservative and independent journalists. The symbolic beginning of the fight against the media took place during the unlawful takeover of the Polish Press Agency, public radio, and television, but the persecution has now clearly accelerated.
Niezalezna.pl organized a campaign to inform politicians and international institutions about the critical situation of free media in Poland.
MEP Tobiasz Bocheński, in an interview with niezalezna.pl, assessed that “Donald Tusk seeks to destroy the foundations of democracy through attacks on the opposition and independent media”, said Bocheński.
“Without free media, there is no free society. The campaign against TV Republika, entering the private apartment of editor Sakiewicz, and the detention of editor Kraskowski are illegal attempts to break resistance to those in power. The government wants to intimidate people, journalists, and politicians”, he emphasized.
Referring to our campaign, the politician noted that mobilization is necessary, saying “We should all stand firmly behind editor Leszek Kraskowski, a brave and uncompromising man. His detention is political repression, most likely an act of revenge for revealing the terrible truth about the actions of Roman Giertych”, added Tobiasz Bocheński.
