“After President Nawrocki’s meeting with President Zelensky, matters that had been stalled for years began to move forward,” said Paweł Szefernaker, Head of the President’s Cabinet. The politician pointed to specific decisions taken by the Ukrainian side, including the granting of permits for search and exhumation work related to the victims of the Volhynia massacre, as well as the transfer of St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to a Roman Catholic parish for 50 years of free use. As he emphasized, these are tangible outcomes of talks conducted at the highest level.
“Truth and remembrance are paramount.” Szefernaker on the President’s actions
The politician spoke about the outcomes of President Karol Nawrocki’s meetings in a recording posted on social media.
“After President Nawrocki’s meeting with President Zelensky, matters that had been blocked for years began to move forward. On December 19, the Presidents of Poland and Ukraine met in Warsaw. One of the key topics was the longstanding lack of permits for search and exhumation work concerning the victims of the Volhynia massacre,”
Szefernaker indicated.
He added that this is “an issue which, for many families, has been an open wound for generations, and this is precisely where decisions matter, not declarations.”
“What happened next? On December 31, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture issued permits for work in Puźniki, Ostrówki, and Wola Ostrowiecka. A concrete, tangible result of the talks. On January 6, in Kyiv, St. Nicholas Church was transferred to a Roman Catholic parish for 50 years of free use. Documents were issued, permission for religious services was granted, and renovation work could begin. This is a gesture that carries significance,”
he recalled.
He then noted: “February 18. Final consent for search work in Huta Pieniacka. And after the remains of victims of Ukrainian nationalists are found, exhumations and a dignified burial.”
“This is what serious politics looks like. A meeting at the highest level, clear expectations and consistency, followed by decisions and action. Because a state is strong when it is able to stand up for the truth and respect for the victims. Truth and remembrance are paramount,”
he concluded.
Po spotkaniu prezydenta Nawrockiego z prezydentem Zełenskim ruszyły sprawy, które były zablokowane latami.
