The 15th edition of the Silesia Marathon, the largest running event in the Silesian region of Poland, is set to take place tomorrow, October 1st. The finish line will be situated on the iconic track of the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów. As always, the marathon route will wind through four Silesian cities: Chorzów, Katowice, Mysłowice, and Siemianowice Śląskie. Participants will compete in three categories: ultramarathon, half marathon, and full marathon.
International Flair
The event has attracted over seven thousand runners from more than twenty countries worldwide, including Australia, Argentina, Brazil, and Thailand. Among the participants, there will be remarkable senior runners, with Jan from Katowice, a 78-year-old, being the oldest on the marathon route. Notably, there are also 77-year-old competitors from Wrocław, Bielsko-Biała, Tychy, and Kyiv.
In honor of the 15th anniversary, a special bell has been cast, which will ring on Sunday, signaling the start for each distance. Runners will receive commemorative t-shirts, and a special medal awaits each participant at the finish line. The marathon route even passes through Nikiszowiec, a century-old, historic mining settlement in Katowice, adding a touch of magic to the event.
