Polish prosecutors, backed by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar, have brought charges against former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki (PiS), who on Thursday at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw heard charges in an investigation concerning the organization of postal voting in the 2020 elections, stated that he refused to provide explanations in this matter. He emphasized that he first needs to familiarize himself with the case files.
“I refused to provide explanations (…) Once I have reviewed the case files, I will give testimony,”
Morawiecki said upon leaving the prosecutor’s office.
When asked if he had heard charges related to the 2020 postal elections, he replied that of course he had.
“Here, the authorities acted in accordance with the procedure and presented me with the charges,”
said the former head of government.
Bodnar’s prosecutors accuse Morawiecki of, as Prime Minister, exceeding his authority and taking actions without legal basis to prepare and conduct the presidential elections on May 10, 2020, exclusively by postal voting.
