Civic Platform Activist Threatened Ziobro with a “Rope.” Now He Apologizes and Explains Himself

As former Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro recently reported, he has received several death threats in recent weeks. It has emerged that one of them came from a former city council candidate backed by Civic Platform. The matter reached the media, and the Law and Justice (PiS) politician announced he would file a notification with the prosecutor’s office. It was then that the activist associated with Donald Tusk’s party began offering explanations.

On Friday, Super Express published an interview with Zbigniew Ziobro, who is currently staying in Hungary. The former justice minister told the newspaper that he had recently received threats.

“Thief, get ready for the rope. Budapest is smaller than you think, you scum,” the message read.

Threats from an Unsuccessful Council Candidate

The message came from activist Wojciech Matusiak. In 2024, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the city council in Starachowice. The would-be local government official ran from a committee supported by Civic Platform and had been photographed alongside party politicians.

Notification to the Prosecutor’s Office

Ziobro announced that he would notify the prosecutor’s office about the matter.

“I remember 2010. A Civic Platform activist, Ryszard Cyba, was looking for me all over Warsaw to kill me […] On a note found on him were three names: Kaczyński, Ziobro, Kurski — his targets. Ultimately, he murdered a Law and Justice parliamentary office employee in Łódź, Marek Rosiak. As he himself testified, he killed in place of those three individuals whom he had unsuccessfully sought,” Ziobro recalled.

Alcohol and a Slip of the Finger…?

Fakt contacted Matusiak. The activist confirmed he was the author of the message but claimed he had made a mistake while typing, as he was holding alcohol in his other hand.

“Later I went onto Messenger, saw that message and realized it was a mistake. I stepped outside with mulled wine for a cigarette and was typing with one hand. It was supposed to say: ‘Żurek is already waiting for you,’ not ‘rope’ — it was autocorrect,” he argued.

“Anyone who has typed on an iPhone knows how easy it is to make a mistake when typing with one finger, especially when you’re standing with a cigarette and mulled wine in your hand,” he added.

Matusiak stated that he apologizes for the word “scum,” as it was “inelegant.” However, the newspaper does not report how the activist reacted to the information that his threats may become the subject of a prosecutorial investigation.
