Classified military documents found in a dumpster. They ended up in the media

Hundreds of pages of military documentation, including documents marked “classified,” have reached the editorial office of the portal, Onet.pl reported. Comments are unequivocal: “This is a scandal,” observers say.

According to Onet.pl journalists, the editorial office received maps of military depots, plans for the evacuation of explosives in the event of war, operational procedures, technical descriptions of explosive material storage facilities, personal data of unit employees, plans for the deployment of one of the units during exercises, and many other documents.

Some of them had been mechanically shredded, while others were intact and placed in bags that were thrown into a nearby dumpster.

“This is a nuclear bomb

Editors emphasized that these were “many hundreds of pages of military documentation, including documents marked ‘classified.'”

Military officials reacted unequivocally: “It’s a scandal.” Former Eurocorps commander, Gen. Jarosław Gromadziński, when asked for comment, stated that “this is a nuclear bomb.”

“You have classified documents from 2023, which, under the Act on the Protection of Classified Information, should be stored securely in a military registry for five years!” he pointed out.

Military Police investigate the case

The portal added that in correspondence with the editorial office, the 2nd Regional Logistics Base (2RBLog), which oversees the depot from which the documents originated, claimed that the editorial team was in possession of unlawfully made copies of those documents.

“The originals of the documents indicated by you have been archived or destroyed in accordance with applicable regulations,” the authors quoted from the correspondence. “This response does not correspond with the facts – at least a significant portion of the documents in our possession are originals. They contain registry stamps, registry numbers, officer seals, and signatures,” the article reads.

Lt. Col. Marek Chmiel, spokesperson for the Inspectorate for Armed Forces Support, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that as soon as the military unit learned of the possibility that Onet possessed military documents, 2RBLog immediately launched an internal investigation within the unit.

Lt. Col. Paweł Durka, spokesperson for the Military Police (ŻW), confirmed in a statement to PAP that the Military Police are conducting an investigation into the matter. The ŻW was notified of the possible commission of a crime by individuals who had access to classified information.

According to a PAP source close to the Ministry of National Defence (MON), the case of the documents allegedly originating from a landfill appears to be a provocation.
