Clear Declaration from Morawiecki: I Will Restore This Program

“If voters decide that I will lead the new government, I will restore the Strategic Investment Program,” announced Mateusz Morawiecki, head of the European Conservatives and Reformists and former Prime Minister, at a press conference in Czarnków (Greater Poland Voivodeship).

Morawiecki listed a number of investments that were carried out in the town in recent years. The list included, among others, street renovations, Staszic Square, and the amphitheatre. “These are significant funds, the kind that a smaller local government […] this municipality simply could not afford on its own,” he stated. He added that these “investments were essential” to retain residents in the municipality, create new development opportunities, and improve the quality of life.

Morawiecki emphasised that the program through which these investments were carried out, the Local Investment Program, is a mechanism that raises the standard of living for local communities. He explained that, thanks to government funding, local entrepreneurs can employ residents who, in turn, shop locally and pay taxes.

“Unfortunately, my successor, Prime Minister Tusk, made one of his first decisions to shut down the Local Investment Program. Everything that is currently being implemented… when you see investment projects being opened and ribbons being cut, draped in the white-and-red flag and Polish emblem, those are all projects we left behind as a legacy. There are no new projects,”

he stated.

He admitted he had hoped that new investments would be implemented using funds from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). “But when I travel through municipalities and hear how little of that money is trickling down to the local level… PLN 15,000, PLN 40,000, these are trivial amounts compared to what was invested when the Strategic Investment Program was being implemented by the Law and Justice government during my time as prime minister,” he said.

“We are convinced that it was our development model, not the one being revived now, that was the right model for economic growth. It was the one that created opportunities. Literally and figuratively, it built local Poland,” he said.

Morawiecki called for the reinstatement of the programs and declared that he already has ready-made solutions. He then made the following pledge:

“If voters decide that I will lead the new government, I will restore the Strategic Investment Program, because it is essential for all municipalities and counties across Poland,”

 he declared.
