Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) have expressed support for the referendum proposal put forward by President Karol Nawrocki concerning climate policy and the ETS system. Przemysław Czarnek described the initiative as “a reflection of public sentiment,” while Stanisław Karczewski announced unanimous support from PiS senators for holding the vote. Both politicians criticized the European Union’s climate policy and the stance of the Civic Coalition.
During press briefings, politicians from Law and Justice commented on the referendum proposal presented by President Karol Nawrocki.
Przemysław Czarnek stated that the president’s initiative reflects public expectations.
“President Nawrocki has come forward with a truly excellent initiative that reflects public sentiment. Not long ago, a poll showed that 75 percent of society supports abandoning Brussels’ absurd climate policy. Not leaving the EU, but moving away from this left-liberal ideology that is draining people’s pockets,”
the PiS politician said.
Czarnek also argued that opposing the referendum would mean acting against the wishes of the majority of citizens.
“What happened today on the streets of Warsaw, along with the recent poll, shows that if senators from Civic Coalition, the Polish People’s Party, and the Left vote against the referendum, it will be a vote against the Polish nation and against a society that overwhelmingly wants to leave the ETS system,”
he said.
Stanisław Karczewski also commented on the matter. The PiS senator announced that the party’s parliamentary club would support the president’s motion.
“All PiS senators will vote in favor of holding this referendum, which is extremely important and highly significant for citizens, because this issue affects every household, every company, the whole of Poland, not only now, but also in the future,”
Karczewski said.
The PiS politician also argued that the European Union’s climate policy is having a negative impact on the economy.
“This referendum is necessary not only for Poland and for the Polish government, as a way of showing the direction citizens want to take, but also for the EU and for Europe, because this climate ideology, being implemented at an alarming pace, is destroying Europe,”
he stated.
Karczewski also criticized the Civic Coalition for what he described as a lack of dialogue with groups protesting against climate policy.
“PO changed its name to a coalition, but it is still supposedly civic while continuing to turn its back on citizens. It does not want to listen to citizens or talk to them. Today, we listened to the voices of trade unionists. The trade unionists say: there is no dialogue, no one is talking to us,”
the PiS senator said.
