Magda Linette exited the Wuhan quarterfinals after losing 0-6, 4-6 to Coco Gauff in an intense match.
Magda Linette’s impressive run at the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan came to an end as she fell to Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals. The 32-year-old Polish player was defeated 0-6, 4-6 by the fourth-ranked American. Despite a solid start in earlier rounds, Linette struggled to match the 19-year-old Gauff’s power and consistency, exiting the tournament after 84 minutes of play.
Linette’s Road to the Quarterfinals
Linette, ranked 45th in the world, advanced further than ever in a WTA 1000 event. Her campaign included victories over Russia’s Ludmilla Samsonova and Daria Kasatkina, both in straight sets, as well as a win by retirement over Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine. However, against Gauff, she couldn’t maintain the momentum she had in earlier matches.
