Born in 956 in Poland, Adalbert was a bishop and missionary who devoted his life to preaching the Gospel among pagan peoples. He was also one of the first bishops of Prague, where he was known as Vojtěch. He died in 997 during a mission among the Prussians who inhabited the territories of present-day Poland and Germany.

Today, on the anniversary of his death, the faithful pray for his intercession to protect the country from hostile influences and to bring unity and peace to the nation. Many Poles believe that his sacrificial work and dedication to the good of others serve as an inspiration for them to follow.

St. Adalbert is one of the most important patrons of Poland and Europe, and his life and work remain an inspiration to many people around the world. Today’s anniversary of his death reminds us of his important role in the history and culture of Poland and of our spiritual heritage that shapes our national identity.
