A Ford Mustang confiscated from a 39-year-old driver for drunk driving has been handed over to the Mazovian police. On Tuesday in Radom, officers showcased its capabilities. The new patrol car is intended to help combat dangerous speeding drivers.
The vehicle belonged to a Warsaw resident who, in April 2025, ended his drive in a ditch by the roadside in the Ciechanów County, Mazovia. The 39-year-old had over 2‰ (per mille) of alcohol in his system. He was detained and charged with driving under the influence.
“Under regulations allowing the confiscation of vehicles from drivers with more than 1.5‰ of alcohol in their blood, the car was secured and placed in a guarded parking lot,” said Katarzyna Kucharska, spokesperson for the Mazovian police.
In September, the owner lost the vehicle after the District Court in Ciechanów ruled its forfeiture in 2025. The American Ford Mustang GT, worth approximately PLN 150,000, was virtually undamaged despite the crash. Officers concluded it could be useful, for example, in combating reckless drivers.
Since current regulations allow confiscated vehicles to be transferred to entities other than the tax office, officers requested that the car be handed over to the National Police Headquarters. The District Prosecutor in Ciechanów supported the motion during the enforcement stage of the ruling, the spokesperson added.
In October last year, the District Court in Ciechanów decided to transfer the vehicle to the police. The final decision that it would go to the Mazovian Police Headquarters was made on December 8.
On Tuesday, the vehicle officially debuted in police livery. It will be used by officers from the Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Radom. The eight-year-old Ford Mustang is equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 450 hp (331 kW). According to the manufacturer, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds, with a top speed of 249 km/h.
