“Parliamentary elections are taking place in Poland this Sunday, and we are concerned that the situation could repeat itself, as it did previously in Albania and Romania,” said Keith Self, Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee in the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Just days ago, a group of U.S. congressmen issued an appeal to the European Commission, demanding clarification regarding concerns about the financing of the campaign of Civic Coalition candidate Rafał Trzaskowski.
Among the signatories was Congressman Keith Self, who chairs the Europe Subcommittee within the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In an interview with Right Side Broadcasting Network, he emphasized that external entities are interfering in Poland’s presidential election campaign. He noted that the European Commission is failing to fulfill its basic duties, particularly in the context of influence from foundations linked to George Soros and previously funded by USAID.
“George Soros’s Open Society Foundation, through various organizations, interferes in elections in numerous countries. With elections taking place in Poland this Sunday, we’re concerned that the same scenario might unfold again, as it did in Albania and Romania,” the American politician stressed.
One Party Under Fire
He explained that the main targets are pro-national and pro-democracy parties. “In Poland, this specifically concerns the Law and Justice party. That is the party being silenced. That’s why we wrote to the European Union—because it is the EU that should speak out on this matter. It should condemn such actions, not support them, as it is currently doing. One of the EU commissioners openly admitted: ‘We forced the Romanian Constitutional Court to annul the elections, and we might have to do the same in Germany,’” Self pointed out.
