Lithuania warns of possible Russian attacks. Poland could be among the targeted countries

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has said that his country possesses intelligence indicating that Russia is planning attacks on critical infrastructure. The reported targets include energy and transport facilities. According to the warning, Poland and the Baltic states could be at risk.

In an interview with the BNS news agency, the Lithuanian president said that security measures had been strengthened in response to the latest intelligence gathered by the country’s services.

Gitanas Nausėda did not specify which facilities could become targets. He also said he had no details regarding the possible timing or location of any such attacks. However, he suggested that Poland and the Baltic states could be affected.

“We have received such signals from our intelligence services. They do not clearly specify the place or the time… because the adversary has not yet completed the planning process, and all we know is that it is planning something and we know the target,” the Lithuanian leader said cryptically.

According to Nausėda, the purpose of such an attack would be to test NATO’s unity.

He said the potential targets are facilities connected with the energy sector and transport infrastructure. He added that the aim would be to inflict “physical damage to critical infrastructure” in order to disrupt its operation.
