A camera was found at the site of the F-16 crash. “It most likely belonged to the pilot who died in Thursday’s disaster,” said Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office. The camera has been secured, and an expert will attempt to power it on.
On Thursday after 7:00 p.m., during training flights for the Radom AirSHOW, an F-16 fighter jet crashed. The pilot, Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian, did not survive.
Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba stated that the camera was discovered on Saturday afternoon. He added that it was most likely a body camera belonging to the deceased pilot.
“It has been secured and will be handed over to an IT expert, first to determine whether it is operational, and second, to extract any possible footage or recordings if such are stored on it,” Skiba said.
According to the information provided, the device is a small camera often used by athletes or pilots. It was most likely the pilot’s private equipment. It is possible that accessing the data stored on it could take the expert several weeks. The investigation into the causes of the accident that killed Major Krakowian is being conducted by the State Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission, in cooperation with the prosecutor’s office and the Military Gendarmerie.
Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian was one of the most decorated Polish F-16 pilots and the leader of the Tiger Demo Team. He served daily at the 31st Tactical Air Base in Poznań-Krzesiny. As an instructor and leader of the F-16 Tiger Demo Team Poland, he represented the Polish Air Force at prestigious air shows both in Poland and abroad.
