“The CPK airport will be completed in 2032, and even if—knock on wood—it ends up being a year, two, or even three years later, we will eventually have an airport that is truly needed,” said Michał Wolański, a member of the supervisory board of CPK, in an interview with money.pl.
The original plan envisioned the opening of the Central Communication Hub (CPK) airport in 2028. That date was considered realistic, though difficult, by former CPK CEO Mikołaj Wild.
“I’ve emphasized many times that 2028 was a very tough target. Under typical investment conditions, our chances were around 15–20%. That’s why we were constantly looking for ways to optimize the timeline,” Wild said in a 2024 interview with onet.pl. He gave the 2030 deadline an 80% likelihood of being met.
Following a change in both the central government and the company’s leadership, the airport’s opening was pushed to the end of 2031.
However, even that timeline now appears to be at risk.
“The CPK airport will be completed in 2032, and even if—knock on wood—it ends up being a year, two, or three years later, we will still have an airport that is truly needed,” said Michał Wolański in his interview with money.pl.
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was asked about these remarks during a press conference.
“Public pressure forced Donald Tusk to reluctantly return to the CPK project and start claiming that it would go ahead. But how will it go ahead? After six months, they admitted to a four-year delay—not 2028, but 2032. And now, a prominent figure from that political camp comes out and says it could be delayed by another few years. It’s just disheartening,” Morawiecki said.
A representative of @CPK_PL has now officially acknowledged that the 2032 deadline for the airport’s completion is at risk.
Mr. Wolański from the CPK Supervisory Board stated:
“The CPK airport will be completed in 2032, and even if—knock on wood—it’s delayed by one, two, or three years, in the end, we’ll have an airport that is truly necessary…”
