Crisis in the Ruling Camp: Two Civic Coalition MPs Side with PiS in Shock Committee Vote — “They Know the End Is Near”

Tensions within Poland’s ruling coalition appear to have reached a boiling point. The latest evidence came during today’s meeting of the Sejm’s Justice and Human Rights Committee. As reported on social media by Law and Justice (PiS) MP Paweł Jabłoński, the government side lost a key vote—thanks to two MPs from its own ranks.

A surprising outcome emerged during the committee session when the opposition succeeded in passing a motion to close the meeting, effectively halting further proceedings. According to Jabłoński’s account on Platform X, the victory was made possible by two members of the Civic Coalition (KO).

“The condition of the ruling coalition after three years of chaos—just lost a vote in the Justice and Human Rights Committee by two votes because two of their own MPs, Dominik Jaśkowiec and Franek Sterczewski, voted FOR our motion to close the session,”
Jabłoński wrote, attaching a photo of the vote results. According to the tally, 15 MPs voted in favor of the motion and 13 were against.

The PiS politician explained that the purpose of the motion was to prevent yet another attack on the judiciary.

“This way we avoided another embarrassing spectacle of coalition MPs insulting judges of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Tribunal, and the National Council of the Judiciary—which is what this committee usually looks like,”
Jabłoński added.

According to his account, the unexpected defeat triggered extreme emotions among members of the ruling camp. One MP allegedly went so far as to make shocking accusations.

“MP Sławomir Ćwik couldn’t accept that they had lost and went so far as to accuse opposition MPs of being under the influence of alcohol—which, by the way, will have consequences,” Jabłoński announced.

In his view, both the surprise defeat and the nervous reaction reveal a deeper crisis within the governing bloc. He argued that today’s events in the Sejm are yet another sign of the coalition’s gradual disintegration—a coalition that, for the past two years, has plunged the country into chaos.

“This defeat and their nerves show one thing—they already know the end is near,” Jabłoński concluded.
