Czarnek and Morawiecki in Unison: “Those Times Are Over” – Strong Message in Chełm

Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) discussed local government issues in Chełm on Saturday. In their view, policy should be conducted in a way that ensures the balanced development of local communities.

In Chełm, politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) are taking part in another conference from the “Thinking Poland – Alternative 2.0” series. Saturday’s event was devoted to local government matters. After a speech by Jarosław Kaczyński, it was time for the Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister, Przemysław Czarnek, and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

“The times when a mayor, a county head, or a city president was in charge and had the funds to meet the basic needs of residents ended in the autumn of 2023. Today, the state is stripping local governments of resources. This must be put in order, and it must be pointed out to those who are in power today and still shamelessly lie”, said Przemysław Czarnek, Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister.

Czarnek announced a reform of the law on financing local government units. – Every local government counts! – he said from the stage in Chełm. “The current government has completely returned to that method of operation. The best proof is the way budget funds are distributed. Show me where the money goes, and I will tell you what the state’s economic policy is. We are dealing with a return to the previous model of development”, pointed out former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

He added that the local government which has gained the most under the current coalition’s rule is Warsaw, followed by Wrocław. In Morawiecki’s assessment, the largest cities have received funds above their natural revenue growth path.

“What is this if not a return to previous development doctrines? Extremely unjust development!” he concluded.
