“Down with ETS” — such banners were held by participants at a meeting with Przemysław Czarnek in Katowice. “If it weren’t for ETS, the upcoming Easter holidays would be much cheaper,” said the Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister.
“This is Poland, which has three pillars of its energy policy — coal, nuclear power, and no ETS!” declared Przemysław Czarnek today. Speaking first at a press conference, he stated plainly: we are leaving ETS. He later reiterated this message during a meeting with residents.
“If it weren’t for ETS, the Easter holidays that are approaching would be much cheaper. But they are thinking about something more, because they are putting forward ETS2 — another additional climate tax on heating and transport,” Czarnek said in Katowice.
What are CO₂ emission allowances? The PiS candidate for prime minister gave a blunt assessment: “A vile, brazen German scam adopted by the European Council under Tusk’s government with the consent of Kopacz — that’s what CO₂ emission allowances are. A vile, brazen German scam imposed on Europe,” he stated.
“If this ETS did not exist, today the basic cost of producing electricity and heat would be twice as low. Do you understand? Your household electricity bills would not be 450 or 500 zł per month, but 250 zł, maybe 300, maybe 320 — but not 500 zł,” Czarnek argued.
“For heating in your homes, a pensioner would pay at least several hundred złoty less per year. Only one thing is needed,” he continued. “It is enough to tell the European Union: we want to be in the Union, we want trade, we want the development of entrepreneurship, access to the common market, the free movement of capital and workers — but in the interest of the Polish state and the Polish nation, we will not tolerate your idiotic leftist nonsense. Down with ETS,” he added.
