Czarnek on SAFE: A scandalous, unprofitable German loan

“Włodzimierz Czarzasty wants to continue forcing the president to sign the law on SAFE, which is a scandalous, unprofitable German loan,” said Przemysław Czarnek, an MP from Law and Justice (PiS) and the party’s candidate for Prime Minister of Poland, during a press conference. He also warned about the responsibility of those who would seek to indebt Poland through a resolution.

President Karol Nawrocki has until March 20 to decide on the law implementing the EU SAFE program. Meanwhile, yesterday the government was presented with the Polish program SEJF 0%, but Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced he would block the project until the president makes a decision regarding the EU loan.

Czarnek spoke about the issue at a press conference today.

“After yesterday’s meeting, it seemed that everything should move forward, but instead we hear that Herr Kamerad Czarzasty, acting in someone’s service – certainly not in the interests of Poland – is blocking this excellent presidential project on the Polish SEJF 0% and wants to continue forcing the president to sign the SAFE law, which is a scandalous, unprofitable German loan,” Czarnek said.

The Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister also reminded that “our children will be repaying for the next 55 years not 185 billion zlotys, but twice as much – 360-370 billion zlotys, if there are no unfavorable exchange rate differences.”

“There is Polish money, placed on the table by a Polish bank for armaments, which today are a necessity in an extraordinary situation, and they say ‘no’. Czarzasty says ‘no’, we do not want this, we want to continue taking out a German loan and burden our children for the next 55 years (…) They want to do great harm to Poland. If they do so, they will be held accountable for it,” Czarnek announced.

He also referred to the prime minister’s statement about a possible workaround in case of a presidential veto.

“I guarantee from here that if the president’s veto appears and Tusk wants to bypass the law with a resolution – we know that a resolution is not a binding act and does not produce any legal effects – everyone who adopts such a resolution and takes out a loan on behalf of Poles for 55 years with interest amounting to 180 billion zlotys will stand before a court. Justice requires it,” he concluded.
