Czarnek sharply criticizes Kierwiński: “He should not remain in office for another minute”

The western border, the actions of the services against the family of President Karol Nawrocki, the situation in the police force, and allegations of constitutional violations. During a press conference at the headquarters of Law and Justice (PiS), Przemysław Czarnek presented arguments in favour of dismissing the Minister of the Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński.

“The worst minister in this government”

Law and Justice (PiS) has submitted a motion in the Sejm for a vote of no confidence in the head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. During the press conference, Przemysław Czarnek raised a series of accusations against the minister.

He argued that one of the main problems is the situation on the western border:

“The lack of security at the western border, which continues to this day, also falls on Marcin Kierwiński. For all these years, Germany has been transferring illegal migrants without an adequate response from the Polish services. Only the activities of citizen patrols and the Border Defence Movement forced the state to react properly. These are reprehensible actions,” he said.

The Law and Justice (PiS) politician also accused the minister of involvement in actions concerning the recognition of foreign same-sex marriages:

“Issuing regulations enabling the entry of same-sex marriages contracted abroad into Polish civil status records without a legal basis and in a manner that is grossly contrary to Article 18 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland is an act that constitutes a violation of fundamental constitutional principles,” he stated.

A significant part of Czarnek’s speech was devoted to the intervention of state services in the apartment of President Karol Nawrocki’s family:

“The situation involving the apartment of President Karol Nawrocki’s family is doubly compromising for the services subordinate to Mr. Kierwiński. A report of a supposed fire, the arrival of the fire brigade, no fire, no smoke whatsoever, and then the police decision to break down the door and enter the apartment without informing the occupants – this is a scandal that should not happen in a Polish state,” he said.

As he added, such situations should not occur in a rule-of-law state:

“In no civilised country is there room for this. This only happens where such provocations can succeed because the services are either uncoordinated or operate under the influence of other factors,” he assessed.

Czarnek also referred to Marcin Kierwiński’s widely discussed speech during Firefighters’ Day celebrations:

“That event on Piłsudski Square alone should have resulted in Mr. Kierwiński having no place in public service. The embarrassment was unequivocal,” he said.

In his view, the current state of the police and staffing shortages further burden the minister:

“All of this, together with the current state of the police, vacancies, and scandals revealed in recent months, shows that Mr. Kierwiński cannot remain Minister of the Interior and Administration for even a minute longer. This is about the security of the Polish state and the safety of its citizens,” he stressed.
