Confusion surrounds the penalty imposed on editor Tomasz Sakiewicz. Although the legal representatives of the TV Republika CEO challenged the decision to impose a PLN 3,000 fine in early June, the complaint has still not been examined. As Niezalezna.pl has learned, a jurisdictional deadlock has emerged between the prosecutor’s office and the Regional Court in Warsaw. The court declared itself incompetent to examine the case and returned the documents, to which the investigators responded with another letter.
The matter concerns a hearing that took place on 20 May at the National Prosecutor’s Office. Tomasz Sakiewicz, CEO of TV Republika, was fined PLN 3,000 for allegedly “groundlessly evading testimony.”
The prosecutor’s office’s absurd decision was appealed.
Niezależna.pl asked the National Prosecutor’s Office when, and to which court, the complaint against the fine imposed on Tomasz Sakiewicz had been forwarded, after being submitted in early June by his legal representatives.
As it turns out, a “deadlock” and a jurisdictional dispute have arisen. The Regional Court in Warsaw does not want to take up the case. For the time being, the complaint has not been examined for a month.
“The complaint against the prosecutor’s decision to impose an order-related penalty on Tomasz Sakiewicz was forwarded to the Regional Court in Warsaw on 16 June 2026. The Regional Court in Warsaw returned the appeal on 19 June 2026, stating that it was not competent. On 24 June 2026, the prosecutor again sent the complaint to the Regional Court in Warsaw, together with a position on that court’s jurisdiction to examine the appeal in this case,”
the National Prosecutor’s Office told Niezalezna.pl.
