MP Dariusz Matecki is likely to be released from custody as early as this coming weekend. According to reports from Telewizja Republika, the timeline for posting bail has been confirmed.
On Wednesday, the Warsaw District Court ruled that MP Dariusz Matecki can be released on bail set at 500,000 PLN. This decision followed a closed court session, and was later confirmed by the prosecutor’s office and Matecki’s defense team. The deadline for the payment of the bail has been set for May 6.
Telewizja Republika, citing information from Matecki’s legal representatives, reported that the bail payment could be made as early as tomorrow afternoon. At the latest, the transaction should be completed by Friday, which would mean that MP Matecki will most likely spend the upcoming weekend with his family.
“The bubble has burst — and with a bang,” said Niezalezna.pl journalist Tomasz Grodecki, speaking in the studio of Telewizja Republika. He described the prosecution’s handling of the case as a major failure.
“Yesterday we had the case of MP Romanowski — a complete embarrassment involving Interpol. The series of blunders by Bodnar’s prosecution office is alarming. I’m genuinely concerned for the Civic Platform electorate. Two such blows in quick succession are nearly knockout punches,” he added.
