“Press Freedom Monitoring Center of the Polish Journalists Association (CMWP SDP) today announces a special conference devoted to all formal and informal actions by those in power against TV Republika and its journalists. There are so many lawsuits that we cannot keep count of them, and on top of that come other forms of repression and harassment, attempts at intimidation, physical aggression, and constant, primitive destruction of the station’s image using government-linked media support,” Dr. Jolanta Hajdasz, head of the Press Freedom Monitoring Center of the Polish Journalists Association (SDP), told the portal niezalezna.pl.
On the program “W punkt” on TV Republika, shocking recordings were revealed today. The case concerns Lieutenant Colonel Wojciech B., pseudonym “Biszkopt”, who is responsible for the security of the most important people in the state, including the current foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski. According to materials revealed by the station, the SOP officer, in a conversation recorded in February 2024 (already after the swearing-in of the December 13 coalition government), was making plans for brutal revenge against editor Piotr Nisztor for his investigative publications.
The case is exceptionally outrageous, yet a large portion of media outlets and the journalistic community remain silent on the matter, or rely on brief dispatches from the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
The portal niezalezna.pl asked Dr. Jolanta Hajdasz, head of the Press Freedom Monitoring Center at the SDP, for comment on the matter.
“Press Freedom Monitoring Center of the Polish Journalists Association today announces a special conference devoted to all formal and informal actions by those in power against TV Republika and its journalists. There are so many lawsuits that we cannot keep count of them, and on top of that come other forms of repression and harassment, attempts at intimidation, physical aggression, and constant, primitive destruction of the station’s image using government-linked media support. All these cases must be documented, they must be publicized, because not only Poles need to know about them. These issues must be raised in international forums to expose the hypocrisy and scandalous methods of those currently governing Poland,” Dr. Hajdasz reported.
Recently, the actions of the government and its acolytes aimed at “silencing” TV Republika have been intensifying.
