Digitization Brings Gniezno’s Treasures to the Digital Age

The Gniezno Archdiocesan Museum is nearing completion of an extensive digitization project, making nearly 200 invaluable artifacts accessible online. Among the treasures now available in stunning 3D detail are the St. Adalbert’s chalice and the famed coronation chalice, allowing viewers to explore these historic items from every angle without leaving their screens.

    A Mission of Preservation

According to museum director Bartosz Przybyła, the digitization initiative aligns with the institution’s core mission: preserving and sharing its rich heritage for future generations. Funded primarily by Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, with additional support from the Gniezno Archdiocese, this project began in 2020 and is now in its fifth and final phase.

The digitized collection not only includes key liturgical objects but also highlights significant historical artifacts like the 12th-century Gniezno Doors and a 1662 silver reliquary of St. Adalbert. These digital archives, available on the museum’s website, showcase Gniezno’s and the Polish Church’s history, commemorating nearly a millennium since Poland’s first royal coronations in Gniezno.
