Only one in three Poles would agree to the restoration of compulsory military service. However, a large majority support the introduction of military training for both women and men, according to Monday’s edition of Rzeczpospolita.
IBRiS, commissioned by Rzeczpospolita, examined whether Poles believe that compulsory military service should be restored in Poland due to the current international situation.
“A total of 51.1 percent of respondents are against restoring mandatory military service, 37.7 percent support it, while 11.2 percent have no opinion. Negative views on reinstating conscription cut across political divisions. They are expressed both by people who do not participate in elections (56 percent), supporters of the opposition (50 percent), and supporters of the ruling camp (49 percent),” the newspaper reported.
As emphasized, “women (54 percent), people in their thirties (65 percent), residents of large cities (59 percent) as well as small towns (58 percent), and people with higher education (60 percent) are the groups that most often oppose conscription.” “The strongest opposition is expressed by people who identify with centrist views (59 percent) and those who mainly get information about the international situation from social media (57 percent),” the article stated.
At the same time, Rzeczpospolita highlighted the high level of support among Poles for participation in military training programs organized for both women and men.
“The IBRiS survey conducted for our editorial office shows that as many as 76.6 percent of respondents support introducing mandatory military training for women and men, while 17.6 percent are against it and 5.8 percent have no opinion. Supporters of defence training are most often voters of the parties forming the coalition government led by Donald Tusk (85 percent), men (87 percent), people in their forties (84 percent), residents of small towns (86 percent), and people with secondary education (83 percent). Support for military training is most frequently declared by people with left-wing views (83 percent),” the newspaper reported.
The IBRiS survey for Rzeczpospolita was conducted using the CATI method on July 10-11, 2026, among a group of 1,067 respondents.
