The State Protection Service (SOP) neutralized a drone operating over government buildings and the Belweder Palace. Two Belarusian citizens were detained, Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported.
“The SOP neutralized a drone operating over government buildings and the Belweder. Two Belarusian citizens have been detained. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident,” the prime minister said.
Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration Wiesław Szczepański addressed the incident on Polsat News.
“This shows that the SOP and the services of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA) are active and guarding the country’s most important facilities. It shows that Poland is safe and that we are working to neutralize such incidents,” Szczepański said.
Last week, on the night of September 9–10, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by Russian drones. Those that posed a direct threat were shot down by Polish and allied aircraft. For the first time in Poland’s modern history, the Air Force used weapons in the country’s airspace.
Following the latest incident, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, among others, declared that they would send more military equipment to Poland, and in Norway and the United Kingdom the ambassadors of the Russian Federation were summoned to their foreign ministries.”
