During Pope Francis’ funeral, Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia was either taking a selfie with his phone or livestreaming the event. This behavior sparked a wave of online criticism. Instead of apologizing, Hołownia attacked his critics and embarrassingly tried to justify himself by… invoking homeless people.
“You’d have to be shameless to turn such a moment into a political stunt. For the Pope’s funeral, I invited people experiencing homelessness to join us on the plane. They represent a group that Francis particularly helped. We’re praying, reflecting, documenting, and will remember this forever. For those interested, here’s proof of what truly mattered today: a Vatican filled with mourners, including many of our fellow Poles” wrote Hołownia.
“Szymon Hołownia probably took a gazillion photos at Pope Francis’ funeral. Every time, he pointed the camera at himself and Kosiniak-Kamysz. The mentality of so-called ‘Jagodno,’ which ruined Poland in 2023” commented Max Hübner.
“On one of the palace facades, someone carved: ‘I was here – S.H.” quipped Stanisław Żerko.
“Why does image marketing matter… What do you think—1 or 2 percentage points down? ‘Worth it’ for this photo?” remarked Miłosz Lodowski.
“And you, clown, embarrassing Poland with your crass behavior at a funeral—did you pay for those homeless people’s trip to Rome with YOUR own money? Or rather with OUR money, from OUR taxes? So don’t act all high and mighty when it’s on someone else’s dime…” criticized Jacek Piekara.
