“Enough lies! Those currently in power pursued a policy of concessions toward Russia for years, trading our national security with Putin. Today they try to lecture others. Let us not allow lies to defeat the truth!” reads a post on the Facebook profile of the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki. The post is accompanied by a video recalling the “reset” policy of the first government of Donald Tusk in Polish-Russian relations, as well as the past of Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the Speaker of the Sejm.
Poles were able to learn about how relations between Poland and Russia were “warmed” in the years 2007-2015, including during Tusk’s first government, from the documentary series “Reset” as well as the book “Zgoda” by Michał Rachoń and Prof. Cenckiewicz.
Since Donald Tusk returned as Prime Minister, the December 13 coalition has presented itself as an anti-Russian camp, accusing the opposition – as well as President Karol Nawrocki – of being pro-Russian. This was noticeable, among other things, in the context of the elections in Hungary.
In response to the actions of the ruling camp, a video was also posted yesterday on President Nawrocki’s Facebook profile, recalling the “reset” policy pursued by Tusk and his team, as well as Czarzasty’s past and the politician’s alleged Russian connections, which TV Republika and Niezalezna have reported on multiple times.
Yesterday, Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty said: “I wondered whether to use this phrase or not, but the president, speaking on our behalf because he is the President of Poland, simply made an idiot of himself. Not Jesus, but an idiot. This is a big problem. Why is that not too strong? Just look at what happened in Hungary. Everyone knew how Hungary under Orban was throwing sand into the gears of the entire EU, how it hated Poland, how it loved Putin.”
“Enough lies!”
The video description reads: “Enough lies! Those currently in power pursued a policy of concessions toward Russia for years, trading our national security with Putin. Today they try to lecture others. Let us not allow lies to defeat the truth!”
The narrator in the video states: “Włodzimierz Czarzasty, known for his communist past and Russian contacts, and the most pro-Russian prime minister in history, Donald Tusk, are falsely attacking President Karol Nawrocki.”
It continues:
“Our leader has been engaged for years in limiting Russian influence. As President of the Institute of National Remembrance, he dismantled communist monuments, and as President of Poland, he directly calls Putin a criminal.”
The video also recalls Donald Tusk’s words from 2008: “Prime Minister Putin and I make sure that no one throws sand into the gears.”
What do the political biographies of Czarzasty and Tusk look like?
“The Speaker from the December 13 coalition joined the communist party serving Moscow in 1983, right after martial law. He remained in it until its dissolution. He defended the Soviet Red Army that murdered Poles,” the recording says.
It also recalls Czarzasty’s statement in a live program, when he argued that Red Army soldiers “also liberated Poland.”
“To this day, he has not explained his suspicious Russian connections. Meanwhile, the current Prime Minister met repeatedly with Vladimir Putin himself, asking him, among other things, for opinions on the construction of a missile defense shield in Poland. It was under his government that our country became dependent on Russian gas, and he himself was described by Russian media as ‘our man in Warsaw.’ The return of Tusk to power was even wished for by Belarusian dictator Lukashenko,” the narrator adds.
