The European Parliament on Thursday supported the customs agreement reached last year between the European Union and the United States. The next step will be negotiations with the member states within the EU Council over the final form of the regulations.
The agreement concerns tariff rates on trade between the EU and the US, concluded by US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in July 2025 in Turnberry, Scotland.
The agreement provides for a 15% tariff on European industrial goods imported into the US from the EU, including cars.
The EU, in turn, has committed to lowering tariffs on certain agricultural products imported from the US, but sensitive products such as beef, poultry, and sugar are excluded. The EU will implement a zero tariff on nuts, soy, certain fish and seafood, and pet food.
