“Everything he touches turns to political gold.” Cieszyński: I’m also counting on a Senate pact

“Today, in Polish politics, everything President Karol Nawrocki touches turns to political gold,” assessed Janusz Cieszyński (Law and Justice, PiS). Asked on the radio about a potential “Senate pact” between Law and Justice and the Confederation party, Cieszyński admitted he hopes it will become yet another example of the president’s “golden touch.”

At the beginning of October, the idea of a right-wing Senate pact was first raised by Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen. “If Karol Nawrocki were to host a Senate pact uniting broad right-wing forces, it would be a very interesting solution,” he said at the time in an interview with Radio Zet. It later turned out that Jarosław Kaczyński shared this view. The PiS chairman said the idea was “rational,” provided such a pact were held under the president’s patronage.

Such a “pact,” Kaczyński argued, could be more effective than the current one formed by the December 13 Coalition. “It’s easy to calculate that if our side formed such a pact, it would also be effective — even more so than theirs — and that’s why it’s worth talking about,” Kaczyński said.

For the next few days, little was heard about the idea — until today, when former Minister of Digital Affairs Janusz Cieszyński encouraged the president to act. Asked on Polish Radio 1 whether a right-wing Senate pact would indeed materialize, Cieszyński admitted he didn’t know yet, but said he was in favor of it.

He also complimented President Karol Nawrocki:

“I think that today, in Polish politics, everything President Karol Nawrocki touches turns into political gold. So I’d like the Senate pact to be able to count on that as well. As for how it turns out, we’ll see,” said Janusz Cieszyński.
