“In Washington, we posed a question regarding Trzaskowski’s claim of ‘excellent relations’ with the Republicans, and the response from the highest-ranking Republican official in Washington was unequivocal: ‘laughable.’ It provoked laughter,” said Michał Rachoń, Program Director of TV Republika, during a broadcast on the station.
During Friday’s debate aired on the unlawfully seized public broadcaster TVP, Rafał Trzaskowski, the Civic Coalition’s presidential candidate, claimed in response to a question about foreign policy that he “has excellent relations with Republicans” in the United States.
“Americans and President Trump are very pragmatic. I have never spoken ill of President Trump — I have excellent relations with Republicans. I will go further: President Trump does not appreciate those who come to kiss his ring. He values those who are tough and wield real influence,”
Trzaskowski stated.
Journalists from TV Republika decided to verify this claim at the source. Michał Rachoń emphasized that the Friday debate was being followed in real-time from across the Atlantic.
“In Washington, we asked the question [about Trzaskowski’s contacts], and the response from the highest-ranking Republican official in Washington was unequivocal: ‘laughable.’ It provoked laughter. That expression caused amusement in Washington, among people who closely follow developments in Poland — the statement by Rafał Trzaskowski that he has excellent contacts among Republicans,”
Rachoń said.
“There is yet another comment — from the same official source in Washington — noting that Republicans circulate among themselves an image from Donald Tusk’s book, showing him placing a toy gun against Donald Trump’s back,”
he added.
