Farm machinery damaged a flood embankment during harvest, sparking an investigation into public safety risks in Bartodzieje.
Prosecutors in Głogów are investigating a potential breach of a flood embankment in Bartodzieje during corn harvesting. The incident, which occurred on Friday and Saturday, involved heavy agricultural machinery operating within three meters of the embankment’s base.
Damage to Flood Defenses
According to Prosecution Office spokesperson Liliana Łukasiewicz, a telescopic loader, two large tractors with trailers, and a corn harvester caused significant damage to the embankment’s structure. The vehicles became stuck in the embankment, and attempts to retrieve them with more heavy equipment further compromised the flood defense.
Risk to Public Safety
The damage posed an immediate threat of a breach, which could have led to flooding of surrounding areas. At the time of the incident, a flood alert was in effect for the region. Those responsible could face 6 months to 8 years in prison for endangering lives and property.
